What’s the big deal about disingenuous mistakes?

In our society today, disingenuous mistakes are a popular trend. In this picture Lindsay flaunts another disingenuous mistake this time wearing tights with runs throughout them. I think it looks unsophisticated. When I first think of tights, I think of women in offices or women dressed in suits wearing either black or nude tights under their dress or skirt. However tight trend seems to have spread throughout the fashion world, and it is no longer just seen in the office or at church. Nowadays girls sport tights of different colors, patterns, and textures, but how did the ripped tights enter the mix?
Lindsay’s love for wearing tights with runs makes me think of those old mom sayings, particularly the one about never leaving the house wearing a pair of tights with a hole or run in them. Here Lindsay surely goes against this saying.Lindsay’s not the only one sporting these infamous ripped tights but much of the fashion world seems to be, and lots of people are talking about it as well.
Typically whenever a pair of tights gets a run in them we used to throw them away because it just looks incongruous. But now women are paying money for tights with extensive ladders and rips in them. Lindsay Lohan is a young celebrity icon who seems to be fond of conveying clothing with disingenuous mistakes. But why she does this is somewhat difficult to see. Ripped tights are an ambiguous style. Lindsay’s ripped tights could represent her rebellion to the rest of society.  Or maybe wants to communicate a "bad girl" image. Or her tights too could represent rich dressing poor.
It is true that clothing can convey one's status, however status in clothing can be entirely ambiguous. In the picture we obviously know that Lindsay Lohan is not wearing ripped tights because she can't afford to buy new ones. Lindsay is of high status yet she wears grungy looking ripped tights. But why? The idea of the rich dressing poor and the poor dressing rich is a common craze in our society.  There is within this trend the idea that by dressing with understatement as Lindsay does, it has the ability to more accurately exude your superior social status.
