At one time wearing makeup was about rituals and accentuating your features, however, today especially in the celebrity world, makeup has become a fact of life and a means to transform your image. In our society today particularly for the celebrities people make a BIG DEAL when they see celebrities without make up. I think makeup’s initial intention was for people to enhance and highlight their beauty. But now more and more people are using makeup as a means to change their appearance and use makeup as a mask.
When you look at pictures of celebrities with and without makeup you would be surprised to see that most of them actually look just like the rest of people in society. Celebrities just have more resources to create their image.
Makeup has caused our society to create an image of what is beautiful when in the real scheme of things that image is entirely unrealistic. Take for example the show Toddlers in Tiaras, the mom’s heavily apply makeup to young girls faces and bleach their teeth because they believe that is what is seen as beautiful in our society.
One of the main reasons our society views these superficial looks as beautiful is because of objects. Take for example Barbie’s. Barbie’s convey this image of a woman that we see as perfect and attractive, however, their bodies and looks are completely unrealistic. This is what a real woman would look like with barbie's dimensions.
Ali Lohan is following in her sister's footsteps with the image obsession. As a young teenager and a wild sister to look up to it's no wonder Ali has all of a sudden begun to revamp her look. Yet she does this in a superficial way by wearing excess makeup and getting lip injections and more. Hopefully she doesn't get too extreme with transforming her appearance.
