Ripped jeans…quite a popular phenomenon, but what really makes them so popular? Ripped jeans can be described as a disingenuous mistake. On the surface they look like an old pair of worn out jeans but really they have deeper meaning than that. Ripped jeans could represent a phenomenon of the rich dressing poor. You would be surprised that ripped jeans are actually a boatload more expensive then regular un-ripped ones. I believe that this is true because ripped jeans can represent status. Most of the time if someone is wearing ripped jeans they had purchased them that way. Why people spend over $150 on ripped jeans is beyond me.
I once watched a show on Bravo about fashion designers and in one episode the designers visited a denim factory for designer jeans. There they learned how to make distressed and ripped jeans. I realized that the manufacturing of those destroyed designer jeans style is more complicated than I anticipated. I suppose that is why ripped designer jeans are so expensive. On the other hand though they could just be one of those designer styles that cost more for the trend.
Rarely do people actually wear jeans that they had accidentally ripped while bending down in them. Just like Lindsay Lohan wears these outrageously ripped jeans here, people correlate ripped jeans as a celebrity style because celebrities flaunt expensive fashions. Yet ripped jeans don’t appear as expensive styles to me. Although ripped jeans are not really flattering on any body, people still buy them. They seem to be a trend that fluctuates in and out of our society. And despite their popularity, I still wouldn’t waste my money on them.
Many people have even posted “How Too’s” for ripped jeans all over the internet. It shows how popular this trend has really gotten.
